About

PICTURE IT: AUSTIN, TEXAS, 2007. (a tumbleweed blows past the feet of eight women in heels)

“Wouldn’t it be cool if there were a comedy festival in Austin featuring talented female comedians?”

Yes, Virginia, it would be. And it’s strange that someone said that, because never in the history of Girls Girls Girls Improvised Musicals has there been anyone in the troupe named Virginia.

It was with this in mind that the ladies of GGG set out to produce a comedy festival featuring distaff performers in all of their estrogen-soaked glory. After rejecting names such as “The Menstruation is Funny Festival” and “Penises are Nasty Festival,” the troupe settled on LAFF: The Ladies Are Funny Festival, which came as a huge relief to everyone involved.

Soon, the Hideout Theater was reserved, the talent was booked, Wayne Alan Brenner wrote a story for the Chronicle, and plenty of folks here in Austin came out to see that yes, indeed, LADIES ARE FUNNY!

Over the years, LAFF has attracted mega-talented ladies, womyn, and even a few hot dudes from across the US of A to the stage, including such foxes as SELENA COPPOCK, SARA BENINCASA, SKINNY BITCH JESUS MEETING, SELENE LUNA, and plenty of sassy Austin talent, too.

In 2012, we plan to discombobulate the gender binary and include males, females, and everything in between with performance that celebrates the fact that you don’t have to be a woman to do comedy that honors women. We hope you will join us in May for another fun, funny, and funtabulous LAFF!
